"Pilgrims of Hope", Malagasy national pilgrimage
Pilgrims of Hope, Malagasy national pilgrimage
On May 17 and 18, 2025, about 40,000 faithful participated in the national Catholic pilgrimage to Ampefy, on the Isle of the Virgin. It is a place of prayer located 118 km west of Antananarivo, in the diocese of Miarinarivo.

The theme is always, "pilgrims of hope", inviting every Christian to live in hope, according to the message of Pope Francis.
The message of Cardinal Tsarahazana Désiré, papal legate for this event, focused on faith and hope. He called on believers to face difficulties with confidence in Jesus Christ, the source of true hope. He also exhorted the faithful to love their neighbour, especially the poor. This spiritual event brought together all the Bishops of Madagascar.
The pilgrimage was marked by a prayer vigil, the sacrament of penance, the Rosary and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Madagascar was consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus during this precious moment. The Cardinal had the opportunity to share his experience during the Pope's election in Rome. The Holy Year of the Catholic Church marks a time of conversion and penance.
