CAMEROON: Rehabilitation of the Ngovayang hospital and various buildings

several buildings of the Ngovoyang hospital

The official opening is planned for September 2022 but much remains still to be done in order to make this place operational.

Bishop Damase ATANGANA, Bishop of KRIBI in South Cameroon, has launched an urgent appeal to our Congregation to take in charge a diocesan hospital located in the village of NGOVAYANG, in the heart of the tropical forest of South Cameroon, 95 km north-east of Kribi, the main town of the diocese. It is a landlocked region where 3 tribes live, including the PYGMEES of the forest.

This Pygmy population has been excluded from all kinds of progress (roads, education, medical care, evangelisation, etc.). The hospital was created right in the forest by Spanish missionaries. Due to a lack of members to take over, they withdrew.

Everything is in order for the infrastructure: several buildings for different hospital services, a house for the sisters and other houses for the nursing staff, but everything is in very bad condition and needs renovation.

The infrastructure is deteriorating, the equipment is worn out, the surgical and laboratory equipment etc.... often breaks down, the pharmacy is almost empty.

The official opening of this place and the community's arrival are planned for September 2022. There is still a lot of work to be done and funding to be found.
